Handle Inputs and Stock in Agri-Business

     

  • PURPOSE OF PROGRAMME

    The learner achieving this unit standard will demonstrate a basic understanding of record keeping, storage and reporting appropriately on inputs and resources for agribusiness. In addition, they will be well positioned to extend their learning and practice into other areas of agri-business in order to farm more professionally.

    Learners will gain an understanding of sustainable agricultural practices as applied in the animal-, plant and mixed farming sub fields. This unit standard focuses on the application of inputs, resources and sourcing in primary agriculture.

    They will be able to participate in, undertake and plan farming practices with knowledge of their environment. This unit standard will instil a culture of maintenance and care for both the environment as l as towards farming infrastructure and operations.

  • COURSE OUTLINE

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 1

    Prepare to receive agricultural inputs into an appropriate store at the appropriate time


    OUTCOME RANGE
    Agricultural inputs include but are not limited to cleaning, arrangement of stock, and prevention of contamination

     

    UASSESSMENT CRTTERIA
    • Appropriate cleaning materials are identified.
    • Appropriate use, handling and storage of tools are demonstrated.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE
    • Brooms, mops, dusters and washing equipment and cleaning chemicals and materials.
    • Stock in terms of storage compatibility is differentiated and classified.
    • The practical arrangement of stock in store is implemented.
    • Delivery of stock is taken using the appropriate documentation.

     

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 2

    Source information about inputs with respect to types, quality and quantity.

     

    OUTCOME RANGE
    This includes but is not limited to communication skills, quantification of items and differentiation between items.

     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERIA
    • The acceptable communication channels are identified.
    • Communication channels can include but are not limited to individuals such as worker, supervisor, and manager.
    • The remaining stock is counted per item.
    • Inputs with respect to their properties and usage are grouped.

     

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 3

    Keep accurate records and handle stock.

     

    OUTCOME RANGE
    This includes but is not limited to basic inventory taking, issuing and receiving of stock

     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERIA
    • Tally (Counting and recording) stock is issued on record sheet.
    • Tally (Counting and recording) stock is received on record sheet.
    • Issued stock is compared with balance and account for differences.

     

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 4

    Demonstrate understanding of input costs and inventory cost.

     

    OUTCOME RANGE
    This includes but is not limited to understanding of cost implications of transport handling, storage and wastage.

     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERIA
    • The cost of inputs - purchasing costs is estimated.
    • The cost of transportation of inputs from supplier to store is estjmated.
    • The cost of handling the inputs is estimated.
    • The proportion of inputs that get wasted and cost are estimated.
    • Methods to reduce input costs and minimize wastage are identified.

     

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 5

    Identify legislation regarding different inputs.

     

    OUTCOME RANGE
    Includes but is not limited to stating the basic rules and regulations regarding handling and storage of inputs, contracts, penalties and obligations with regards to input supply.

     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERIA
    • The rules and regulations pertaining to inputs are demonstrated and understood.
    • An ability to identify various classes of chemicals using pictograms is shown.
    • Possible penalties applicable in a breach of contract are listed.

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 6

    Observe safety regulations.

     

    OUTCOME RANGE
    Includes but is not limited to knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, labelling of stock appropriately and identifying appropriate storage methods for various products.

     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERIA
    • The Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) is understood and correctly and appropriately referred to.
    • The OHSA in all work is applied.
    • The common labelling techniques used in input storage are described.
    • Appropriate storage methods for dry product are indicated,
    • Appropriate storage methods for liquids are indicated.

     

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 7

    Schedule supply of inputs with regards to consumption.

     

    OUTCOME RANGE
    This includes but is not limited to understanding of cost implications of transport handling, storage and wastage.

     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERIA
    • The importance of a requisition form and its use are identified.
    • Appropriate documentation for the issuing and receiving of stock are received"
    • Stock levels are maintained by timely and appropriate replenishment.

     

    SPECIFIC OUTCOMES

    • Prepare to receive agricultural inputs into an appropriate store at the appropriate time.
    • Source information about inputs with respect to types, quality and quantity.
